The Architectural/Archaeological Unit started the production of a 3D survey of the entire Fortified Settlement. This operation is based on the raw data collected during 2014 and 2015 seasons of the OASIS project, and consists in combining and aligning all the internal and external surveys of various portions of the settlement.

The accurate 3D model that is being assembled will be employed in various ways: it will allow an accurate study of the structure and internal alignment of the half-collapsed buildings; it will support the choice of the spots to be excavated in the coming seasons; and it will be used to produce immersive 3D models to be used for scientific and educational initiatives.

The 3D model of the Fortified Settlement will be also used to develop an informative system linked to the archaeological database of the items that will be retrieved during the future excavations.

The archaeological excavations will focus on the Fourth Century AD remains: the Fortified Settlement, the lower cemeteries and the agricultural system, and will be performed by the Italo-Egyptian team in strict collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of the Antiquities and the Egyptian authorities.

This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizion 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement n°  681673).
